Meet the People and Critters of Shelterbelt Farm this Sat, Aug 22!

We are excited to be one of the host sites for the second annual Finger Lakes Permaculture tour happening this Sat, Aug 22. Permaculture design uses ecological principles to produce food, medicine, and other products while restoring the health of the ecosystem.

Our farm will be open from 9am to noon with guided tours of both our gardens and farm. This is our first season living on-site and all plantings were done this Spring, so this is an early-stage project. You can see our orchard, cropping and grazing ecosystem, beehives, sheep, and chickens, swales, green living roof, bioshelter under construction, graywater system, and diverse fruit/nut species (serviceberry, mulberry, elderberry, hazelnut, persimmon, chestnut, currant, etc)

The best part about this tour is the ability to see how permaculture principles are applied on a diversity of sites, from urban lots to commercial-scale farms and nurseries. You’ll be able to connect and network with others who are interested in living more sustainably, and walk away with ideas for your own property.

Cost: $5-$50 donation benefits the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute, organizers of this tour

Related Events: In addition to the site tours on Sat Aug 22, you are invited to attend a showing of the new film “Inhabit”, a feature-length documentary introducing permaculture, on Fri. Aug 21 at 6pm in Montour Falls.

And join everyone Sat. evening Aug 22 from 5-8pm for a reception at the Finger Lakes Cider House with live music, a raffle, cash bar and tours of Good Life Farm.
