Gone are the days of parking by the side of the road and wading through waist-high goldenrod and wild raspberry when we visit our farm land. We now have a home base there: a driveway, pond, and the beginnings of a multi-purpose barn/apartment/workshop building.
Nearly 16 months ago we salvaged a hemlock timber frame from a barn that was deconstructed a mile down the road. Now we’ve finally integrated it into our new barn structure, with many fine beams leftover that will be put to use when we eventually build our home.
We have also mowed and limed about 10 acres of the land in the process of restoring it to good pasture, and now we have 75 young turkeys helping to further improve the soil!
